This practical seminar will cover AML/CFT issues with significant implications for law firms including recent regulatory changes, proposed amendments to the AML/CFT Act, and levy and supervision proposals. The seminar will also contain suggestions for managing AML/CFT compliance costs for managing audits, and engaging with Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) as a supervisor.

Neil Russ 2025 Neil Russ
Russ + Associates, Auckland

Neil specialises in corporate and international tax issues. He has a multi-jurisdictional background in banking, capital markets, structured finance, venture capital and private equity transactions, and has experience acting for corporates, accountants, law firms and trust companies in AML/CFT matters. Neil is the Convenor of the Tax Law Committee.


  Serge Sablyak
Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington

Serge joined DIA in 2024, having worked since 2000 as a regulator, policy advisor, and senior leader in multiple New Zealand government sectors, including building and construction, criminal justice, biosecurity, and cybersecurity. He is the Director AML/CFT and is focused on completing the AML/CFT single supervisor transition, providing regulatory relief to reporting entities, and successfully completing the next mutual evaluation of New Zealand’s AML/CFT system, which is due by 2028. Serge was educated in the United Kingdom and at Victoria University of Wellington.

Cancellation and refund policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE New Zealand Law Society in writing of the change. CLE reserves the right to close registrations, and cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
