This seminar will focus on some of the key considerations that practitioners should have at the forefront of their minds when advising their clients on estate planning, with a particular focus on wills and trusts. The presenters will consider red flags and risks that arise when taking instructions, practical issues and updates needed for estate planning and risk mitigation when advising vulnerable clients.

This seminar will cover:

  • Red flags when taking instructions, including capacity and influence concerns and parent-child considerations
  • Recent legal developments, practical issues and updates needed to existing estate planning
  • Matters to consider when setting up estate planning for new clients
  • Practical considerations and risks for lawyers advising clients on estate planning
  • Tips for lawyers to mitigate against external factors.

  • Assist clients who have no estate planning in place to set up a suitable structure.
  • Identify common claims and issues to estate planning structures and take steps to avoid them.

Sally is the founding partner of Morris. She is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand, New South Wales and New York and has a Master of Laws from Columbia University in New York. Sally has an established reputation in the field of trust, estate and relationship property disputes, appearing regularly in the Family Court, High Court and Court of Appeal on behalf of trustees, beneficiaries, executors, charities and private clients.

Bethan is special counsel at Morris and leads the firm’s advisory team. She is qualified in both New Zealand and England & Wales and specialises in non-contentious private client advisory services. Bethan has extensive experience in creating bespoke estate planning and asset protection solutions including trust structures, wills, enduring powers of attorney, relationship agreements and all other private client services.

Cancellation and refund policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE in writing of the change. NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to close registrations and cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
