Introduction

The Residential Tenancies Act 1986 is the law that governs residential rental agreements for landlords and tenants in New Zealand. Tenancy Services is a part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), and administers the Residential Tenancies Act (the RTA) 1986, Unit Titles Act 2010 and the Healthy Homes Guarantee Act 2017.
