Introduction

The Waitangi Tribunal fulfills an important role in helping to shape the relationship between Māori and the Crown. Working within this unique environment  provides us with the opportunity to make a positive contribution to Treaty relationships and Treaty jurisprudence.

Following on from the successful Waitangi Tribunal Conference held in 2005, the NZLS is again providing a forum for practitioners to enhance their understanding of this complex and challenging environment. This intensive will discuss many of the issues currently facing us within this field. Each session has practical advice designed to help practitioners get the best from their involvement in areas such as technical and tangata whenua research, pleadings, urgencies and preparation for settlement. The future role of the Tribunal in the post-historical inquiry era will also be considered.
