The insurance landscape within New Zealand had undergone a fundamental shift post the Christchurch and Marlborough earthquakes. The market is still evolving, both in response to issues brought to the fore by the earthquakes and as part of wider global trends.
Insurance is a factor in most commercial and property transactions so it is crucial that lawyers understand both how insurance works and the impact that the earthquakes have had on general insurance. There is a need to understand how the insurance landscape has changed, what the issues for lawyers are now and how insurers are reacting to the issues.Bringing together lessons learnt with the practical aspects of how insurance works and how lawyers can work alongside the broker and insurer for better outcomes for your clients, this seminar will look at insurance from the beginning to the end and point out what to look out for on the way through.
Topics covered will include:Please contact us if you use a dial up internet connection.
From an insurance perspective the Canterbury earthquakes caused losses of a scale, diversity and complexity seldom witnessed anywhere before. A wide range of disputes have arisen between insurers and insureds about policy response. Lawyers have had to analyse policies as never before, and apply them to circumstances for which there are few if any precedents.
This seminar booklet is written by the two lawyer participants (Neil Campbell and Peter Woods). In the presentation we will also have contribution from an industry participant, Storm McVay, on the market changes and other challenges that have arisen from the earthquakes.
