This one-day interactive workshop is designed to enhance your ability to connect with Māori as clients, stakeholders, partners, and in an everyday capacity and will provide you with practical law-specific te reo Māori resources.

Our experienced facilitator will guide you through this interactive day as you consider how to successfully engage with Māori in legal settings, conduct the correct welcome and explore the different aspects of te ao Māori and how to bring Tikanga and Tapu into your everyday professional and personal environment.

Learning objectives

 In this workshop you will:

  • Develop an understanding of te ao Māori gaining confidence to enhance your practices and relationships when engaging in te ao Māori environments.
  • Participate in an interactive Tikanga session and share ideas and experiences of how this can be implemented in both your professional and personal life.
  • Learn the differences between Pepeha, Karakia and Mihi and the appropriate time/situation to perform each process.
  • In a te reo session, learn welcomes, appropriate responses, everyday phrasing and some specific legal introductions.

Format

This interactive workshop is focused on developing your skills, and will use a range of teaching and learning methods.

Cancellation and refund policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE in writing of the change. NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to close registrations and cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
