ADLS/REINZ released the 10th edition of the Agreement for Sale and Purchase of Real Estate in late 2019. This module will help ensure that you have a robust understanding of the key updates and the practical points to keep in mind when advising your clients.

For better or worse, advice on property transactions is often made under urgency. This webinar focuses attention on the key practical “need-to-knows” from the 10th edition of the ADLS/REINZ Agreement for Sale and Purchase of Real Estate.

Topics covered will include:

  • New default conditions
  • The end of faxes
  • The new regime for chattels
  • Changes to the warranty provisions
  • Claims for compensation
  • The updated GST clauses.

The aim is to help all property lawyers and legal executives to be able to answer those difficult questions that arise on a Friday afternoon.

Please contact us if you use a dial up internet connection.

Introduction

This webinar focuses on the practical points arising from what I call the “new agreement”, or what is more formally known as the Auckland District Law Society – Real Estate Institute of New Zealand Agreement for Sale and Purchase of Real Estate (10th edition).

I have not been involved in the drafting of the new agreement. I don’t envy the committee, which must consider a range of issues, and which must undoubtedly have to make a range of compromises.

I’ve worked with many editions of the agreement throughout my life as a practising lawyer, and I’ve given opinions – formal or informal - on a range of issues. I’ve seen a few changes – less than some, and more than others.

As I said above, my focus here is on practical points for property lawyers and legal executives working with the new agreement.

This webinar has arisen from a series of articles for LawTalk, so thanks must go to Geoff Adlam for commissioning those, as well as discussions with various members of my team, including Dale Thomas, Charlotte Muggeridge, Luke Paerata, Kerri Schofield, Aliesha Miers-Greene, Tim Fahey, Katia Holland and Daniel Shore.
