From the chair

Mae West said, “Getting old isn’t for the faint of heart”. Age can change how we look, feel, what we can do and our confidence in our decision-making. Our job as lawyers is to help our senior clients navigate the changes in a practical, empathetic, and easily understandable manner. To empower them to continue to make choices that sustain their independence and build their confidence.

This year’s Elder Law Intensive is a collection of practical sessions, full of best practice advice from knowledgeable presenters who are specialists in their area, providing insight on a variety of issues that we face in day-to-day practice.

Among all the other excellent topics, I am especially looking forward to hearing the opening address by Geof Shirtcliffe from the Law Commission on the review of adult decision-making and capacity and to Professor Kate Diesfeld and Dr Greg Young’s session on capacity, a session I found particularly helpful when it was presented in 2017.

We look forward to sharing the day with you, whether in person or via live web stream.

Chair: Fleur McDonald, Fleur McDonald Legal, a division of KT Law Limited, Christchurch
