Jane has expertise in memory and cognitive impairment, dementia and depression, with an appreciation of the complexity of issues facing the older person. She is highly regarded in the field of capacity and competency assessments. Jane has considerable experience in writing medico-legal reports and has gained respect in her “expert opinion” role in court and legal settings. She has extensive experience in mental health, with an intricate understanding of the different legal tests applied in the assessment of capacity.

Fenella Devlin Law, Palmerston North

Fenella has practised as a lawyer for 29 years in the Family Court and has considerable experience as Lawyer for Child, appointed by the Family Court to represent children. She is also appointed as Lawyer for Subject Person to represent vulnerable adults in the Family Court. Fenella has studied mediation practice overseas and has been an Assessor for the New Zealand Law Society mediation training programme.

Andrew’s practice covers all areas of family law, and he has extensive experience in the field of elder law and particularly in proceedings under the PPPR Act involving vulnerable adults. He is also experienced in issues involving mental health, intellectual disability, estates, and relationship property. Andrew is regularly appointed by the Family Court to act as Lawyer for Subject Person and Lawyer for Care Recipient and also regularly acts as counsel in mental health hearings.

Mark is the Clinical Head/Mental Health Services for Older People and has over twenty years’ experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He has held numerous leadership positions in DHB Mental Health and Addictions Services and been a clinical leader in Psycho-geriatrics. Mark currently holds the position of Service Clinical Director for Liaison Psychiatry and Mental Health Services for Older People at Auckland DHB. His passion is for improved service delivery, dementia services and medico-legal issues. Mark is a published author and presenter at conferences.
