Introduction

Cross leases are a popular form of subdivision going back to the 1960s, where land and buildings are owned jointly by the occupants as tenants in common and the flats leased. This type of ownership has the potential to lead to significant issues. This publication will take a practical approach in considering how you can help your clients avoid and/or manage these issues at the front end of the process, when buying and selling; tips in relation to obtaining consent; and the steps that you can take if problems do subsequently emerge.
