It is common for family lawyers to work on a file where a Lawyer for Child is involved. The best outcomes are achieved when the interactions between the Lawyer for Child and the family lawyer go smoothly. A solid understanding of the different facets of the Lawyer for Child role, and what can and can’t be done, will assist you to better navigate proceedings and manage the expectations of all those involved. It could be critical to the success of your case. This webinar is aimed at family lawyers who are not on the Lawyer for Child list but who act on files involving Lawyer for Child.

Helen is a director of McWilliam Tyree Lawyers (formerly McWilliam Rennie), a specialist family law firm. She has practised in all areas of family law since 2003, and takes Lawyer for Child, Lawyer for Subject Person and Lawyer to Assist appointments. Helen has a special interest in Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act (PPPR) proceedings and relationship property and is a contributing author to Brookers Family Law – Family Property (Thomson Reuters), writing about ss 21 to 21T of the Property (Relationships) Act 1976, concerning contracting out and separation agreements.

David has been in practice since 2005. He spent 11 years practising in Taranaki before moving to Wellington in 2016. He became a barrister sole and joined Wellington Family Law Chambers in late 2020. David specialises exclusively in family law, including Care of Children Act, relationship property and Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act disputes. Since 2011 he has been regularly appointed by the Court as Lawyer for Child, Lawyer for Subject Person and Lawyer to Assist the Court.

  • If you attended the live webinar, you will receive an electronic certificate of attendance as verification for your CPD records.

Registration but non-attendance on the day

Cancellation and Refund Policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE New Zealand Law Society in writing of the change. CLE reserves the right to close registrations, and cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
