Dr Andrew Butler KC

Andrew is a leading human rights litigator and academic. He has appeared in many of the leading New Zealand human rights cases, particularly at appellate level. Andrew is co-author of the leading text, The New Zealand Bill of Rights Act: A Commentary (2nd ed, 2015), which is regularly cited by the New Zealand courts. He is admitted as a practitioner in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and has been engaged in a number of matters in that jurisdiction. Andrew has taught a number of LLM courses on human rights at both Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Melbourne Law School.
Natalie Coates

Natalie (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Hine, Tῡwharetoa, Te Whānau a Apanui, Tῡhourangi) specialises in public and administrative law, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori legal issues, human rights, whenua (land), multi-party negotiations in Treaty of Waitangi settlements, trust and governance matters. She is a leading expert in the intersection between tikanga and the common law, having led precedent-setting cases on this intersection in all senior courts.
Robert Kirkness

Robert has a broad commercial, public and international law practice. He appears as counsel for private clients, State agencies and the Crown in commercial and public law disputes before the New Zealand courts. Robert also acts as counsel for States, corporations and individuals in disputes before international courts and tribunals. In addition to counsel work, he serves as an arbitrator in international commercial disputes.
Paul Rishworth KC

Paul’s practice comprises litigation and advice on matters of general public and constitutional law, with an emphasis on human rights and anti-discrimination law.
