Michelle joined the Wakefields Lawyers team in 2019 as a senior associate and became a director of the firm in 2021. She has a specialised background working in trusts, estates and succession planning, relationship property and employment matters. Michelle is also experienced in property matters, including residential and commercial conveyancing, and financing transactions for private and corporate clients. She has a Master’s Degree from the University of Auckland, completed her STEP Diploma in trusts and estates in 2020 and is a Trust and Estate Practitioner.

Chris has been in practice since 1995. He had twelve years in general practice, including family law, before joining Wellington Family Law in 2007 (now Wellington Family Law Chambers). Chris has specialised exclusively in family law since then and is a senior Lawyer for Child. In 2018, he was appointed to the Independent Ministerial Panel which reviewed the 2014 changes to family justice services and was an author of the subsequent report, Te Korowai Ture ā-Whanau, which was published in June 2019.

Steph (formerly partner at Dyhrberg Drayton Employment Law) is a senior Wellington lawyer. She has a wide variety of experience, in all sectors. Steph has been championing safe, respectful employment practices for many years. She has been involved in the campaign for effective pay equity legislation, including appearing in the Bartlett & E tu case against Terranova. In 2018, Steph was awarded Wellingtonian of the Year in recognition of her efforts to tackle sexual harassment in the legal profession.

Michael heads his firm’s specialist residential conveyancing division, HomeLegal, and has been a partner of the firm since 2006. He is one of the region’s top residential conveyancing lawyers and acts for a number of real estate agents and agencies. Michael has a particular interest in educating young lawyers and real estate agents on conveyancing practice. He is an approved trainer for the Real Estate Authority and has been involved in writing their training materials.

In addition to having advocated for clients in all types of trust and estates disputes, Kevin is a mediator (AMINZ, Resolution Institute) who firmly believes in mediation for resolving difficult family wealth disputes and restoring relationships. He is the trusts and estates columnist for the Law Society Property Law Section’s The Property Lawyer; a co-author of Dobbie’s Probate and Administrative Practice (7th ed), and a regular contributor at conferences and seminars on trusts, estates, and mediation.


Katherine Mexted 2025Katherine Mexted
Convex Legal, Wellington

Katherine is a director at Wellington based law firm Convex Legal. Her practice focuses on advising business owners and individuals on the areas of property, business law, trusts, and asset planning. Prior to founding Convex Legal, Katherine spent the first half of her career working for Dentons Kensington Swan and DLA Piper, and in Vodafone NZ’s legal team, specialising in commercial contracts. She is a current member of a New Zealand Law Society Lawyers’ Complaints Service Standards Committee.
