There are a number of amendments to the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 and associated Regulations which come into effect on 1 December this year. This webinar will provide you with an understanding of the key changes and help ensure that you are able to effectively advise your clients on how to comply with the new requirements.

These changes include:

  • New duty of due diligence for directors and senior managers
  • New certification obligation (comes into effect on 1 October)
  • Changes to responsible lending, disclosure, fees and advertising obligations.

Crystal is the Commission’s Chief Legal Counsel for Credit matters. She has been with the Commission since 2016, working exclusively in the consumer credit space. Prior to joining the Commission, Crystal worked in-house at HSBC in London for a few years. At HSBC she worked predominantly on matters involving the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority-led regulatory investigation into the mis-sale of interest rate derivatives. Prior to her time in London, Crystal worked for several years at DLA Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper) in its commercial litigation team.

Louise is the General Manager, Credit. She joined the Commission in 2021 from Lawyers on Demand NZ, an international law firm, specialising in risk and compliance. Louise has significant expertise providing legal risk and compliance services to a range of New Zealand and international organisations, including banks, telecommunications and electricity companies. She brings particular strength in the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act, having led Bank of New Zealand’s legal team which advised on the legislation and the implementation of the 2015 changes to it. Louise has a law degree (Hons) and a commerce degree from Canterbury University.

Cancellation and refund policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE in writing of the change. NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to close registrations, and, cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
