This webinar will consider the fundamentals of the Criminal Procedure Act 2011 in a regulatory environment and outline the potential options available for your clients when they are facing prosecutions. It will provide you with a tool kit that will help ensure that you are able to achieve the best possible results for these clients.

This webinar will discuss:

  • Key steps in the criminal process for both jury and judge-alone matters
  • Factors to consider when making major decisions around whether to give interviews, electing trial by jury and whether to call or give evidence
  • Key applications that defendants can use to take control of the process including disclosure applications, dismissals and sentence indications
  • An introduction to the Costs in Criminal Cases Act 1967 from a defendant’s perspective.

Tim has wide experience in criminal and regulatory proceedings, including acting as prosecutor, defence counsel and amicus curiae in regulatory proceedings. He also has experience acting on behalf of insurers in this space. Tim regularly appears in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal, and has conducted both judge alone and jury trials. He has a deep knowledge of criminal procedure, which has enabled him to achieve positive outcomes for clients in a number of different cases. In addition to his criminal and regulatory work, Tim also represents clients in a range of public law and local government matters as well as commercial disputes.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE in writing of the change. NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to close registrations, and, cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
