The Automatic Exchange of Information standard was developed by the OECD at the request of the G20 countries as part of a global initiative to address “offshore tax evasion”. The standard enables the information about financial accounts to be exchanged between the jurisdictions. Currently over 100 jurisdictions have committed to this, including New Zealand.

From 1 July 2017 it will be implemented in New Zealand. The presenters will take a practical approach in outlining the implications of the standard and in considering how you and your clients can comply with the requirements.

In particular, the presenters will cover:

  • The historical context and earlier initiatives to resolve the problem
  • How FATCA changed the game
  • How CRS applies to trusts, companies and law firms and their trust accounts
  • The technical details of the regime
  • What you have to do.
