Subdivisions Intensive

Subdivisions Intensive
Add to CPD Planner

From the Chair

Subdivisions sit at the interface of resource management and property law. This intensive aims to bring these strands together.

A developer has a concept. There are planning provisions and regulatory constraints. An RMA practitioner works in, around, and through these planning constraints to get a new subdivision approved.

Works are done. A property lawyer or legal executive steps in, drafting easements, covenants, and working with the surveyor to lodge the new plan with LINZ. Titles are then sold.

There can and should be a lot more overlap around these roles. RMA lawyers need to understand easements, covenants, and memorials. Property lawyers need to understand consenting processes, RMA requirements, and other planning tools. Each can learn from the other.

Whether a two-lot subdivision, a greenfields super-lot development, a tower of units, or something in between, there have been a number of developments in the law and practice of subdivisions which command attention.

Spanning RMA reform, Environment Court and appellate decisions, the new Land Transfer Act, pragmatic solutions to tricky problems, and best practice, this intensive will keep you at the forefront of a complex but rewarding area of law. See you there!
