Trusts are often the centrepiece of a New Zealand family’s asset plan, however, quite often they provide only limited benefits and sometimes they cause more problems than they purport to solve. This seminar will take a practical approach in helping you advise your clients on the various benefits of and applications for trusts, some of the disadvantages, the associated governance and compliance obligations, and some alternative asset planning devices.

This seminar will include discussion about:

  • The reasons for asset planning
  • The traditional approach to asset planning in New Zealand
  • Some of the challenges faced by the modern asset planner
  • Alternative and additional approaches to asset planning.

His advisory practice involves family office design, family business succession planning and governance, family trusts, foreign trusts, charitable trusts, residency by investment, estate planning, relationship property, superannuation trusts, private funds, energy trusts, employee share schemes, fiduciary risk management, captive insurance, FATCA/CRS, and AML/CFT. He is also frequently involved in applications to court and disputes concerning trusts, estates, and relationship property. Henry’s private clients include family offices, athletes, performers, and captains of industry but for the most part he advises ordinary New Zealand families and their businesses. He is often retained by law firms, regulators, banks, accountants, financial service providers, and professional trustees.

Cancellation and refund policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE in writing of the change. NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to close registrations, and, cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
