The Treaty of Waitangi | Te Tiriti o Waitangi, human rights (including those affirmed in the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990) and international law all bear on the exercise of public law powers and duties. These rights and obligations are ever more important and challenging elements of public law decision-making.

This half day forum will canvas how Te Tiriti o Waitangi, international obligations and human rights are engaged in the exercise of public law powers and duties and provide tools to effectively analyse and address these issues in your day-to-day practice.

Topics covered will include:

  • Key working principles, practical insights, risks and opportunities
  • Recent judicial decisions, legislative and policy initiatives and other current developments
  • Coming prospects and emerging challenges.

Learning objectives

After attending this forum you will:

  • Understand how Te Tiriti o Waitangi, international obligations and human rights bear on the exercise of public law powers and duties.
  • Have a practical perspective on how best to advise, challenge and defend, public decision makers.

Cancellation and refund policy

You may cancel your registration eight working days in advance of an event, and you will receive a refund less a 25% administration fee. If you cancel less than eight working days in advance of the event, no refund is payable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. If you wish to do so you must advise CLE in writing of the change. NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to close registrations, and, cancel or reschedule an event as necessary. Where an event is cancelled by CLE, a full refund is payable.
