Family violence cases are especially complex and often require sensitive client interviewing skills and special court practices.

This FREE full-day forum will complement the May 2021 forum, with a practical focus.

From the Chair

E aku nui, e aku rahi, e aku rau rangatira mā, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.

Family violence is a significant issue facing our country. As lawyers in the family law space we see the impacts of this on our clients and their whānau/families. The rates of family violence in our country are such that more needs to be done. The incidence of family violence that we know about through official statistics is just the tip of the iceberg. Family violence is prevalent in our society across all cultures, genders and social backgrounds. The question arises ‘what can we do as lawyers’? I hope this forum informs participants about the information, education and services in this area to help us reduce family and sexual violence in our communities.

Chair: Stormie Waapu, Matariki Chambers, Auckland
