From the Chair

“The only constant is change.”

Our theme for this year’s conference is “reaching new heights”, and it will be a time to share ideas and challenges:

  • Get up to speed with the latest changes to the law and property law practice
  • Meet and exchange ideas with your colleagues
  • Hear and see a great line up of topics and speakers

There has been more change in property practice in the past five years than the previous 20 years combined. The additional and unexpected “change” of Covid-19 created even more challenges and opportunities for lateral thinking. Unfortunately, it also prevented us from hosting the biennial Property Law Conference in 2020. At the time of writing this introduction, we have just come out of the February Alert Level 3 for Auckland. I am hopeful that, Covid alert levels permitting, we can proceed with an updated programme in May 2021.

The synergy gained from sharing and exchanging ideas on a face-to-face basis with colleagues is invaluable. Get to hear the latest issues and trends, ask questions and share ideas in the break-out sessions. This cross-fertilisation and collegiality extends to the lunch and tea break outs, expertly catered at our world-class venue, Te Papa Tongarewa. These fantastic opportunities are typically reserved for conferences.

The dedicated organising committee has spent many hours selecting the most relevant topics and engaging, knowledgeable presenters. Please take the time to review the session topics and impressive two-day schedule. I’m sure you will find plenty to entice you!

2020 saw the milestone 20th anniversary of the NZLS’s Property Law Section. Join us at the end of day one, with an additional social occasion to celebrate our professional membership organisation’s significant achievement. Paid up Property Law Section members will receive an additional $100 discount off the cost of the conference.

Get in early and book your accommodation now.

See you there on the 10th and 11th of May!

Chair: Duncan Terris, Terris Legal, Christchurch
