From the Chair

A good understanding of education law in 2019 continues to be highly relevant for principals, senior leaders, Boards of Trustees, and their advisors, enabling them to avoid the hazards of litigation and media and social media publicity. The NZLS CLE Education Law Conference 2019 brings together education law experts from around the country who work across all areas of the education sector.

The Conference will provide a legal update and an insightful and practical look at the key legal issues facing schools in 2019. Attendees will be provided with practical guidance on how to respond lawfully and effectively to the key legal issues that arise within the school environment including employment law and staff management, social media issues, student discipline best practice, managing Board of Trustees relationships, Teaching Council and mandatory reporting obligations, health and safety, as well as responding to Official Information Act and Privacy Act requests.

A panel discussion will also be included in the Conference, with a facilitated discussion on Tomorrow’s Schools Independent Taskforce Report and the subsequent feedback on the proposals for change to the education sector, and the legal implications of these changes for schools. I very much look forward to welcoming you to Education Law 2019 and I have no doubt that it will provide attendees with practical, relevant and informative professional development.

Chair: Gretchen Stone
