Introduction

Dear Leader,
Successful leadership is usually defined in terms of goal achievement. For instance:

Leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what
needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating
individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives.1

While such definitions address the importance of achievement and working with others, for me, a more useful definition of leadership is “…being the best person you can be in the service of the goals and aspirations of your organisation or community”. That is, the ultimate goal of leadership is to do your best to serve the greater good of others.

This means that you are, in effect, a catalyst for ‘making it happen’; and, as such, you need to learn how to be the best catalyst possible.

The purpose of this workbook is to help you reflect on your leadership as the basis for better understanding your opportunities for greater impact.

To make the most of this guide, take some time to complete the sections and then reflect on the material prior to the Leadership 101 webinar.

I hope you enjoy the preparation material and I look forward to talking to you during this webinar.
